Scrap battery supply is tight, prices rise; secondary crude lead smelters add production halts [SMM Scrap Battery & Secondary Crude Lead Weekly Review]

The supply situation in the scrap battery market did not improve during the week. Several large secondary lead smelters reduced production due to insufficient raw materials. The daily average arrivals at a major smelter declined by nearly 20 trucks MoM. Additionally, the procurement prices of secondary lead smelters have generally increased. Currently, the mainstream tax-inclusive price for scrap e-bike lead-acid batteries ranges from 10,200 to 10,300 yuan/mt.

A secondary crude lead smelter in central China is currently out of production due to equipment failure. The quoted prices for secondary crude lead in east China are high. According to some downstream buyers, the price of secondary crude lead at a certain smelter in east China is 100 yuan/mt higher than that of secondary refined lead. Downstream alloy smelters have shown poor procurement enthusiasm, with only a small volume of secondary crude lead transactions. As of June 13, 2025, the mainstream tax-excluded price for secondary crude lead ranges from 15,700 to 15,900 yuan/mt.
